MELBOURNE -- It's been three months to the day since Tropical Storm Fay parked over Brevard County and caused widespread flooding damage.
In Melbourne's Grambling Park community, one of the hardest hit areas, the heavy rains created a lake in a low lying area, flooding dozens of nearby homes.
Three months later, some repairs have been made, while many homes remain marked with an "X" and deemed unfit to live in.
On Thursday, crews continue to rebuild the damaged interior of some houses.
News 13 spoke to one worker who said he’s optimistic the area will soon be back to normal.
“Everybody's in a hurry to get back to their homes,” said Emmanual Souck. “They are just struggling to get some financing to move ahead with the work, but they're getting there.”
More money is available for Melbourne residents who still need help fixing their homes. The state has given extra subsidies to the city, which doubles the available aid.
Homeowners can apply for up to $15,000 in state aid in a program administered by the city.
Qualifying residents can get an application by calling the city's Housing and Community Development department at (321) 674-5734.
Paperwork must be received by February 6, 2009.
