ORANGE COUNTY -- Another World War II-era bomb was found at the former Pinecastle Jeep Range.

The bomb, which was not live, was found behind a pond in the Lee Vista Square neighborhood.

In addition, residents also got a brief history lesson on the former bombing range Thursday.

The Army Corps of Engineers explained exactly how the range was used. Documents show the nearly 12,000-acre site was used to practice bombing, air-to-ground rocket firing and high explosive bombing.

However, officials now know that those practices occurred in a smaller portion of the site.

"There are about 500 acres that the military said in this particular case could be dangerous items that remain in this area, as specifically for bombing and things,” said Amanda Ellison with the Army Corps of Engineers. “But most of the acreage was used for small ranges and things, bullets and that sort of thing."

The Army Corps of Engineers expect to have a better timeline of what to do next about the affected area sometime next spring.

However, they said areas north of Lee Vista are less likely to be of concern.
