BAREFOOT BAY -- The Brevard County Sheriff's deputies arrested three men Tuesday night they allegedly caught looting.

Over 50 homes were damaged when a suspected tornado, spawned by Fay, touched down Wednesday afternoon in the neighborhood.

A tip led to the men's arrest for stealing the aluminum roof that was ripped off of a home.

Nine of the manufactured homes are uninhabitable, and three people were hurt.

Deputies said the men then helped themselves, placing the aluminum in a cart behind their sport utility vehicle.

Neighbor Ed Sammis helped catch the looters.

"Aluminum today is worth a lot of money,” said Sammis. “They come around, scavenge it up. Fortunately enough they got caught."

Brevard County Sheriff Jack Parker told News 13 that looters will be dealt with to the full extent of the law and deputies will spend the next few days patrolling the area.

Meanwhile, homeowners are taking the event in stride, especially those who were there in 1994, when Tropical Storm Gordon damaged about 500 homes, and caused about $10 million in damage.
